A young girl Nae is ostracized for always talking to herself; but in reality, she converses with a bizarre creature that is only visible to her. Following the death of her beloved grandfather in a tragic car accident, Nae feels that a spectral force is at work, prompting her to cause a ruckus at her kindergarten. Given the circumstances, a specialist is summoned to assess the situation: Hiromasa "Nine" Tsukumo, an eccentric individual who is shadowed by his own abnormal companion. Nine quickly teaches Nae about the true nature of their special friends and resolves to help pursue her grandfather's murderer.
