和歌山・熊野地方に生まれ育った山中木葉(このは・池脇千鶴)は、生まれつき鋭い味覚の持ち主。料理人である父・一路(いちろ・根津甚八)に影響を受け、料理の道を目指して大阪へ。アルバイト中に出会った精進料理にほれ込み、京都の尼寺で修業を積む。厳格な庵主・泉恵尼(野際陽子)に弟子入りして精進料理の精神を学びながら、さまざまな料理にも挑戦していく。木葉が数々の困難に打ち勝ち、本物の料理人をめざす物語。
