広島県尾道市（向島）に生まれたヒロイン・村上あかりは、ある日自宅の鉄工所を訪れた祖母・田中初音（はつね）により、自分が村上家に養子縁組されたことを知る。 高校を卒業後、大阪の会社に就職するものの、会社の破産手続きにより失職し、困難はあったものの、鰹節をつくる会社に就職。祖母の家に転がり込み、下宿をしている祖母の家に暮らしている様々な人に出会いながら、かつて母親と祖母が切り盛りし閉店していたお好み焼きの店を再度復活させ、息を吹き返させ周りの協力をえながらも笑いあり感動ありの庶民派ホームドラマである。
