1986년 5월 SRF1에서 방영을 시작한 애니메이션. 펭귄들이 이글루에서 살고 일하는 남극을 배경으로 남극점에 있는 펭귄 핑구와 핑구의 가족 이야기를 다루고 있다. 주인공은 그 가족의 아들이자 등장 인물인 핑구이다. 펭귄이 말하는 모든 대화는 인간 언어로 이루어지지 않고, 핑구어(Pinguese)로 이루어진다. 전 세계의 언어 장벽을 뛰어넘는 핑구어는 펭귄들만의 독특한 언어로, 핑구는 행복하거나 화가 날 때, 입을 트럼펫처럼 모아서 핑구어를 한다.
