De mensheid is de ruimte ingetrokken. Duizenden mensen leven in gigantische ruimte kolonies die in een baan om de aarde draaien en 'Sides' worden genoemd. De Aarderegering, die de koloniën regeert, is echter onrechtvaardig en wreed. Een groep revolutionairen bouwt vijf robotwapens, Gundams genaamd, en is van plan deze naar de aarde te sturen om hun strijd voor onafhankelijkheid te beginnen. Deze Gundams, bestuurd door vijf jonge mannen, dragen de hoop en dromen op vrijheid van de kolonisten met zich mee terwijl ze naar de aarde afdalen om Operatie Meteor te beginnen!
